Lawrence Krauss, who was at one point a prominent and commercially successful theoretical physicist (not a description you see very often), has in recent years transformed himself into a right-wing crank of the worst kind. The man used to have a career where he got to study the origins of the universe! That’s objectively one of the coolest jobs in existence. But nowadays he’s writing bigoted screeds about trans people in the pages of the Wall Street Journal.
I do wonder to what extent Krauss’s reactionary turn stems from the fallout of his own shitty behavior. He was forced out of Arizona State University after accusations that he sexually harassed students. (He was also deeply involved with Jeffery Epstein.) It’s an old pattern: A media personality is outed as a creep; most normal people don’t want anything to do with him; so he starts pandering to right-wing audiences whose standards for moral behavior are nonexistent.
Oh yeah, and Krauss is also on Substack. Because of course he is.
